I love my circle time each day! Start out every morning with our check-in to see how everyone is doing and gauge social emotional status of the class. I think this is such an important time. Then we get busy – yes, with literacy, math, and what to expect the rest of the day. Many days it is my favorite part of the day. 🙂

There is a lot of singing and moving to keep the little ones engaged. I used a similar flow to what is included in my Calendar bundle. I mainly model and allow learners to contribute by filling in the chart.

Having a calendar helper is great and if you are doing Mommy school I definitely recommend doing it together. Some days went better than others and you just play it by ear. If students are engaged find some teachable moments. If students are jittery, stop and sing a learning song to get them moving. It will get easy and have a better flow as the year goes on and eventually my students took over the whole process and I was able to guide their learning.

One quick question: how does/did calendar time typically look for you at the beginning of the year? Are you doing/modeling/scaffolding all of these tasks at the beginning?
