Common Core

L.K.1a- print many upper- and lowercase letters

L.K.2c- write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes)

L.K.6- use words and phrases acquired through conversations, reading and being read to, and responding to texts

Next Generation Science Standards

K-ESS3-1- use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants or animals (including humans) and the places they live. Examples of relationships could include that deer eat buds and leaves, therefore, they usually live in forested areas; and, grasses need sunlight so they often grow in meadows. Plants, animals, and their surroundings make up a system.

K-ESS2-2- construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs. Examples of plants and animals changing their environment could include a squirrel digs in the ground to hide its food and tree roots can break concrete.

K-LS1-1- use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive. Examples of patterns could include that animals need to take in food but plants do not; the different kinds of food needed by different types of animals; the requirement of plants to have light; and, that all living things need water.

Texas Essential of Knowledge and Skills

LA.K.2.B.ii- using letter-sound relationships to decode, including VC, CVC, CCVC, and CVCC words

LA.K.2.C.i- spelling words with VC, CVC, and CCVC

LA.K.2.D.v- identifying all uppercase and lowercase letters

LA.K.5.B- generate questions about text before, during, and after reading to deepen understanding and gain information with adult assistance

MA.K.2.A- count forward and backward to at least 20 with and without objects

MA.K.2.B- read, write, and represent whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or pictures

MA.K.2.C- count a set of objects up to at least 20 and demonstrate that the last number said tells the number of objects in the set regardless of their arrangement or order

SCI.K.2.A- ask questions about organisms, objects, and events observed in the natural world

SCI.K.9.B- examine evidence that living organisms have basic needs such as food, water, and shelter for animals and air, water, nutrients, sunlight, and space for plants
