The first weeks of school are the perfect time to teach kindness and respect. This Golden Rule lesson from my God Made Me Bible unit uses Matthew 7:12 to help children understand how to treat others well. It combines songs, sorting games, and coloring pages to make the truth stick.
Matthew 7:12 says, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” This short verse packs a big truth. The lesson shows students that kindness means action, not just words. A simple song helps them memorize the verse and remember it all year.
Why This Lesson Works
The Golden Rule lesson mixes music, movement, and conversation. Students learn that kindness is a choice they make every day. More than good manners, it points them to love like Jesus.
Songs are a great way to help little minds remember important information. Like all of my bible activities, this one includes songs that help with memory verse work and the overall lesson.
Easy to Follow Lesson Guide
Let’s be honest. You’re a volunteer who teaches bible class with a million other things to tackle during the week. Spending hours on writing and prepping bible class lessons is tough.
The best part of all of my bible units is the easy to follow lesson guide! Add to it or pull what doesn’t fit in your schedule, but the overall lesson is done for you!
Hands-On Activities for Kindness
This lesson keeps children moving and thinking. Whether you use these activities in small group rotations or in a large group these activities will help reinforce the Golden Rule lesson.
- Kind & Unkind Sorting: Students sort real-life actions into “kind” or “unkind.” The discussion that follows helps them see why their choices matter.
- Sentence Building: Children build simple sentences that describe what good friends do. This reinforces positive habits in their words and actions
- How I Want to Be Treated: Students sort behaviors into “I want” and “I don’t want.” This shifts the focus to empathy and understanding.
Creative Reinforcement
This lesson provides tons of opportunities to show learners creativity. Who knew implementing bible lessons and writing and drawing could be so much fun! Your little learners will practice tracing the memory verse for this unit while coloring the picture below. Another activity is using creative skills to decorate the main theme of this lesson-The Golden Rule. I’m sure many parents will add these printables to their refrigerator!
Just another lesson in the God Made Me Bible unit that teaches our little learners the importance of God’s creation-US! To see more of this lesson plus the others included click the link below!
