Fall Thematic Unit | Science, Literacy, and Math Activities

The Fall Thematic Bundle connects across content areas, aligning to NGSS (science), Common Core (ELA and Math), and Texas TEKS (ELA, Math, and Science).

NGSS – Next Generation Science Standards (Kindergarten)

• K-LS1-1: Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals need to survive (leaf investigation, fall walk).

• K-ESS2-1: Use and share observations of local weather conditions (four seasons).

• K-ESS3-1: Use a model to represent the relationship between plants/animals and their environments (trees in fall).

• K-PS3-1: Make observations to determine the effect of sunlight on Earth’s surface (seasonal changes).

Common Core ELA – Kindergarten

• RF.K.1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print (fall emergent reader, poems).

• RF.K.2.A: Recognize and produce rhyming words (rhyming center).

• RF.K.3.C: Read common high-frequency words by sight (write-the-room, pocket chart).
