Meet the Teacher night moves fast. You’re trying to greet families, collect forms, answer questions, and smile through it all… and somehow keep track of everything. That’s why I started using a simple tool that’s become one of my favorite parts of the night. My family folder for Meet the Teacher night is my yearly life saver for an organized night for me and the parents!
What is a Family Folder?
The Family Folder for Meet the Teacher is a take-home folder filled with everything parents need to get through the start of the year. It gives families a single place to collect forms, info, and reminders—and it gives you a smooth way to send it all home.
Inside the folder, I include:
- A Welcome Sheet with tasks to complete during Meet the Teacher night
- A Parent Contact & Emergency Info Sheet
- A Photography Release Form
- A Student Info Card (quick reference for things like allergies, transportation, etc.)
- Tips for Preparing for the First Day of School
- Our Daily Schedule and key information about school routines
Parents fill out the cards that night and take the folder home to keep. It becomes their go-to spot for all the beginning-of-year info. No more crumpled papers at the bottom of a backpack.
Add It to Your Meet the Teacher Routine
The Family Folder fits right in with the rest of my Meet the Teacher setup. The instructions provide detailed instructions. And with everything labeled, parents move around with ease.
I place each folder on their child’s desk, provide a pen, and a few gifts to welcome them to a new school year!
After they fill everything out, they place the forms in the designated spots and take the folder home to keep important information.
